Highland Folk Weddings

Getting hitched might well be the most important day of your life. Why then leave anything to chance? The stunning Highland Folk Museum has been facilitating marriages for many years, with couples only too happy to trade ‘I do’s’ in such a unique setting. Situated among 80 acres of land in Newtonmore, within the famous Cairngorms National Park, the museum comprises an impressive selection of restored buildings documenting Highland life through the ages. In fact, there are over 30 historical dwellings, in addition to an on-site cafe and children’s playground. You might elect to tie the knot within the historic Leanach Church, or perhaps you’ll take your ceremony outdoors, in the shade of the hills. After all, there’s plenty of space to throw up a marquee. The museum is fully licensed to hold weddings and civil partnerships throughout the site, so the power really is in your hands. Guests will quickly get a feel for how life was lived by our Highland ancestors, with the buildings representing eras from the 1700s to the 1960s: everything from working crofts and railway halts to smoke houses and a clockmaker’s workshop. Wow factor? Check.

A great place and free to enter (but donations welcomed!). Some nice places to explore, a modest but well kept playground and an old fashioned sweetie shop, all in the surroundings of the beautiful Cairngorms. Lovely!
